About The Position

The Building-Janitorial Supervisor is responsible for the management of janitorial staff and operations. This role involves overseeing hiring, discipline, and performance evaluations, forecasting staffing and supply needs, inspecting work quality, and coordinating with other departments to ensure efficient and timely service delivery. The supervisor will establish operational standards, provide training, investigate and resolve service complaints, and maintain records of work hours and pay structure information. Additionally, the role includes evaluating facility conditions, ensuring equipment is in working order, purchasing supplies and equipment, preparing management reports, and participating in budget development. The supervisor is also responsible for ensuring staff are issued supplies, selecting appropriate cleaning materials, and recommending or arranging for additional services like repairs and renovations. Other assigned projects and duties are also part of this role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) supervisory years’ experience in janitorial, porter, maintenance or related facilities field.
  • Knowledge of janitorial techniques and procedures, as well as strong troubleshooting skills of same as it pertains to hi-rise buildings and other smaller facilities.
  • Effective written/oral communication and good interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Office that includes MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and safety requirements related to janitorial operations.
  • Must be available for emergency work.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license (NY, NJ, CT, or PA only) – no exceptions.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for management of staff, including assisting with or making recommendations for hiring, firing, discipline, evaluating, interviewing and directing the work.
  • Forecast necessary levels of staffing and stock and equipment, regularly, to facilitate effective scheduling and ordering.
  • Inspect work performed to ensure that it meets specifications and established standards.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments to ensure that services are provided in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Establish and implement operational standards; develop and provide training as necessary.
  • Investigate complaints about service and equipment and take corrective action.
  • Maintain required records of work hours other related pay structure information.
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required and make necessary work assignments.
  • Check equipment to ensure that it is in working order; secure service as needed or assign appropriate staff to make repairs.
  • Select and order or purchase new equipment, supplies, or furnishings.
  • Evaluate operational efficiency and make recommendations for changes and improvements.
  • Prepare management reports based on data gathered and make recommendations for staffing or overtime usage, facility usage, etc.
  • Participate in budget development based on evaluation of departmental expenses.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment are issued to staff.
  • Select the most suitable cleaning materials for different types of linens, furniture, flooring, and surfaces.
  • Recommend and/or arrange for additional services, such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment, as necessary.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
