About the position

The Building Inspector I position at CSG Consultants Inc. involves inspecting buildings and structures at various stages of construction to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations. The role requires knowledge of building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and energy codes, as well as the ability to review and understand construction plans. The inspector will work under the supervision of the Building Official or Supervising Building Inspector and is expected to maintain accurate records while effectively communicating with clients and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections of residential and commercial structures during various stages of construction and remodeling to assure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Investigate and make reports on apparent code violations within the applicable codes and regulations.
  • Provide code interpretations to clients, building professionals, and the public.
  • Resolve problems and set priorities in inspection tasks.
  • Read and interpret building plans, specifications, and building codes.
  • Detect deviations from plans or specifications and standard construction practices.
  • Maintain basic record-keeping practices on paper or with a computer.
  • Handle several tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail in an environment of frequent interruptions.
  • Work effectively with government entities, private interests, contractors, and professional clientele.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Possess an International Code Council (ICC) Certification as a Building Inspector or one ICC trade-specific certification (i.e., plumbing, electrical, or mechanical).
  • Minimum of 1+ years of experience as a building inspector with a private or public agency, or minimum of 3+ years of experience in building construction-related fields.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 'C' California driver's license is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
