About the position

The Building Engineer plays a crucial role in the maintenance and operation of mechanical equipment and building systems within a commercial property. This position involves working closely with other engineers and may include leading entry-level engineers on various projects, ensuring that all building-related systems are functioning optimally and safely.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled maintenance and building repairs, including equipment testing and preventative maintenance.
• Handle unscheduled maintenance calls, including plumbing emergencies, minor equipment malfunctions, HVAC calls, electrical and lighting repairs, and minor structural repairs.
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of fire/life safety systems for the property.
• Conduct regularly scheduled Preventative Maintenance tasks to ensure all building equipment is functioning properly.
• Respond to emergency calls after hours as directed.
• Perform routine inspections of building(s) and systems.
• Promote and maintain safe work practices focusing on overall safety.
• Work with tenants to understand their needs and maintain positive, productive, and professional relations.
• Collaborate with Property Manager/General Manager on projects as directed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3-4 years of progressively responsible related experience in a commercial property or tenant management setting.
• Knowledge of building and equipment maintenance/repair techniques, as well as basic property management tools and skills.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work effectively; maintain composure under pressure and changing conditions.
• Self-motivated with leadership, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
