About the position

The Procurement Cost Engineering Specialist leads in the coordination and management of the material cost activity for built to print parts (BTP) for new and existing business in the Aerospace and Defense (A&D) market segment. The role requires applying in-depth knowledge in a specific area of specialization, working within established professional standards and practices. The incumbent will work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors and a considerable degree of judgment. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may negatively impact the division’s or department’s operations, schedules, and/or performance goals. The position involves building internal and external relationships, such as with key suppliers, customers, and internal services.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares material pricing independently for new business opportunities (bids) including generation of Bill of Material, cost analysis, negotiation with suppliers, collaboration with Commodity Management and presentation to team leaders and managers.
  • Prepares RFQ packages for various BTP commodities including sheet metal fabrication, cable assemblies, machining, casting and injection molding and negotiate with suppliers.
  • Estimates BTP part costs based upon the most efficient manufacturing methods.
  • Identifies supply chain gaps for new commodities discovered during the new bid process and works with the Commodity Management team to fill those gaps.
  • Works closely with commodity management, management, sourcing teams, engineering teams, and financial cost engineers.
  • Participates in kick-off meetings and interacts with global customer units as well as counterparts in other regions.
  • Consolidates, tabulates, analyzes and reports on various commitment and performance metrics.
  • Participates in VAVE activities to reduce cost and mitigate risks in the supply chain.
  • Works with GCBU on Material Value Propositions (MVP) to reduce cost and enhance security of supply.

Requirements

  • Understanding of general aerospace and defense products and industry.
  • Broad knowledge of the marketplace conditions for the area of specialization including industry pricing, technology and supply/demand trends.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication, machining, casting and injection molding.
  • Ability to analyze mechanical drawings and estimate part costs.
  • Ability to answer technical vendor questions during the RFQ process.
  • Working knowledge of Celestica’s global supply chain including strategic policies and objectives.
  • Strong knowledge of basic computer applications and the ability to learn and use multiple applications specific to this department including ERP and office systems.
  • Knowledge of purchasing principles and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of specific customer needs.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to consolidate, manipulate and analyze large quantities of data.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy and working under tight time deadlines.
  • Ability to evaluate, prioritize and problem solve a variety of tasks to ensure their timely and accurate completion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
