About the position

The BU Safety Manager plays a crucial role in supporting multiple Business Units (BUs) by developing and implementing loss prevention programs and safety objectives. This position focuses on ensuring compliance with safety regulations, promoting safety training, and fostering a proactive safety culture within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and consultation to BU leadership to promote and implement safety-related training programs.
  • Ensure that BU loss prevention programs are in place to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Assess Division and Business Unit loss control program activities and communicate, train, and develop critical skills.
  • Monitor implementation of safety and loss prevention programs, including Focus 6 programs, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety regulations and Federal and State Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Act as a resource in the preparation of training materials and support monthly employee safety meetings.
  • Manage return to duty (modified/light duty) programs in partnership with HR and Division management.
  • Participate in the investigation of serious accidents/injuries and monitor investigations of minor accidents and injuries.
  • Participate in division OSHA or DOT compliance inspections and audits.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a safety professional.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills across various levels of the organization.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence with minimal direction.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation skills.
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other applicable health and safety standards.
  • Professional safety certification through a nationally recognized safety organization or a college degree in Safety Management.
  • Successful completion of a 40-hour OSHA compliance course.
