Requirements

  • Must be available and willing to work extended hours per day or per week, including weekends and holidays, as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary to meet its business needs.
  • Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • At least five years' experience, preferably with a labor organization or in the field of labor relations, focusing on contract negotiations, contract administration, dispute resolution, and employee benefits.
  • Must have a current driver's license, automobile (in reliable working condition), and current automobile insurance that meets the state minimum requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in labor negotiations, collective bargaining, labor organizations or union organizing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee broadcast membership matters as part of the broadcast department in the San Francisco - Northern California Local.
  • Assist the Local executive director and broadcast labor counsel staff in their negotiation, administration and enforcement of broadcast contracts.
  • Responsible for broadcast member outreach and various internal and external organizing initiatives.
  • Provide support to members by handling or redirecting membership and/or health and retirement benefit inquiries.
  • Support the Local staff, Board of Directors, and member committees.
  • Assist the Local negotiating team in negotiating, administering and the enforcement of broadcast contracts with television and radio stations, including research and strategy.
  • Schedule and coordinate negotiations and station meetings.
  • Provide general overview, information and assistance to covered broadcast employees including frequent station visits and bargaining unit meetings.
  • Establish working relationships with employer counterparts in order to effectively administer and enforce the terms of broadcast collective bargaining agreements.
  • Work with Local and National broadcast staff to create, implement and facilitate internal and external organizing initiatives, directives and comprehensive strategies to serve the needs of the Local as well as the national broadcast membership.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the union health and retirement plans.
  • Assist members in obtaining health and retirement benefits under the union health and retirement plans via the terms of the collective bargaining agreements; including working closely with the health and retirement plans' staff to ensure proper benefits coverage of members.
  • In conjunction with national staff, ensure the proper handling of membership dues and enforcement of union security provisions.
  • Under the direction of the Local executive director, support Local initiatives involving communication, outreach and education; assist the Local Board of Directors and Local committees where needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.
