About the position

The position involves providing skilled services at a journeyman level in maintenance and repair work, specifically focusing on heating, boiler, and HVAC systems. The role requires self-direction and may involve supervising staff, ensuring that work is completed efficiently and in compliance with agency policies. The individual will be responsible for planning, executing, and completing various maintenance tasks while demonstrating independent judgment and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled heating, boiler, and HVAC construction, maintenance, and repair work on agency properties.
  • Provide journeyman-level skills in HVAC-related activities.
  • Plan, layout, and obtain materials according to specifications and building codes.
  • Lead and instruct less skilled co-workers in heating, boiler, and HVAC tasks.
  • Inspect and repair existing heating equipment, ensuring compliance with instructions and specifications.
  • Order materials and perform tasks such as measuring, planning, fitting, and rebuilding equipment.
  • Interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, specifications, and sketches for repairs and installations.
  • Maintain and repair plumbing fixtures, pumps, valves, drains, and air compressors.
  • Install water supply and heating systems under safe conditions.
  • Adjust boilers using test equipment and perform diagnostics on HVAC equipment.
  • Maintain safe and sanitary work conditions for self and others.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational experience required.
  • 5 years of successful experience in heating, boiler, and HVAC maintenance and repair work.
  • City of Providence, State of Rhode Island Stationary Engineer License required.
  • Journeyman status license or certificates for Pipe Fitter, Plumber, Air Conditioning, Electrical or Electronics preferred.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electricity, heating, HVAC, and related boiler equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in working in a public housing setting.
  • Journeyman status license or certificates for Pipe Fitter, Plumber, Air Conditioning, Electrical or Electronics.
