About the position

The Biologist 1 (Wildlife) position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about wildlife management and conservation. The successful candidate will work under supervision to conduct wildlife population inventories, monitor contaminant levels and wildlife diseases, and develop and implement wildlife management plans. The position also involves promoting appreciation of wildlife in urban environments, which is crucial for fostering community engagement and support for wildlife conservation efforts. In this role, the Biologist will assist in identifying wildlife management problems and reviewing project proposals that may impact natural wildlife habitats. The responsibilities include implementing public use programs for state land areas in Suffolk County, administering the regional access program for hunting on state-managed lands, and coordinating habitat projects.
