About the position

The Biological Science Technician position at the US Natural Resources Conservation Service involves establishing and maintaining seed and plant production fields, conducting research plots, and ensuring proper agricultural practices. The role requires monitoring plantings, data collection, and the operation of agricultural equipment, contributing to the management of the Plant Materials Center and participating in technology transfer activities.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain seed and plant production fields.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining research plots.
  • Irrigate, fertilize, and apply pesticides according to the study plan.
  • Assist with monitoring plantings, harvesting plots, collecting data, and data entry.
  • Responsible for fertilizer, chemical, and pesticide application, labels, storage, and reporting as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair various farm agricultural equipment.
  • Assist with Plant Materials Center (PMC) planning and management.
  • Participate in technology transfer activities.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the federal service or comparable experience.
  • Completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to biological sciences may substitute for experience.
  • Combination of education and experience must total at least 100% as outlined in OPM Qualifications policy.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate-level education related to biological sciences.
  • Experience in weed management and irrigation.
  • Experience in seed production, processing, and handling.
