About the position

The Biological Science Technician position at the Plant Materials Center (PMC) in Los Lunas, NM, is responsible for supporting the development of plant science technology to assist in the conservation of natural resources and farm bill programs. This role involves establishing and maintaining seed and plant production fields, conducting research, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements related to agricultural practices.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain seed and plant production fields.
• Responsible for establishing and maintaining research plots.
• Irrigate, fertilize, and apply pesticides according to the study plan.
• Assist with monitoring plantings, harvesting plots, collecting data, and data entry.
• Responsible for fertilizer, chemical, and pesticide application, labels, storage, and reporting as required by regulatory agencies.
• Maintain and repair various farm agricultural equipment.
• Assist with PMC planning and management and participate in technology transfer activities.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
• Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959.
• Successful completion of a one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
• Valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
• Specialized experience or education as defined for GS-5, GS-6, and GS-7 levels.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with weed management and irrigation.
• Knowledge of seed production, processing, and handling for quality control.
• Familiarity with routine research techniques or procedures.
