About the position

The Biological Science Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in supporting research processes by performing complex technical duties in laboratory and field environments. This position involves collecting, preparing, and evaluating biological samples, maintaining specialized equipment, and conducting molecular biology techniques. The technician will also be responsible for data analysis and record-keeping, contributing to the overall success of research projects.

Responsibilities

• Participates in various phases of the research process by performing complex technical duties in a laboratory or field environment.
• Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples and supporting records.
• Performs routine and recurring techniques and studies using specialized equipment.
• Maintains records and compiles data from various sources.
• Maintains, calibrates, and modifies complex/specialized equipment and automated systems used for testing and evaluation procedures.
• Tabulates, statistically analyzes, and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages.
• Performs molecular biology techniques with biological samples such as DNA/RNA extractions or Western blot analysis.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen or US National.
• Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
• Successful completion of a one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
• Direct Deposit is required for federal payments.
• Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Specialized experience or education as defined for GS-05 and GS-06 levels.
