About the position

The position involves carrying out data management and bioinformatics analysis activities to support various projects within the Department and/or Division. The role focuses on implementing bioinformatic pipelines for high throughput data analysis, maintaining databases, and ensuring data quality and integrity. The individual will also be responsible for creating reports and visual summaries of analyses for publication and presentation purposes.

Responsibilities

• Implements bioinformatic pipelines for the analysis of high throughput data, including RNA-Seq, exome, and whole genome sequencing data.
• Assists in the design, development, and maintenance of databases, repositories, and resources.
• Designs, implements, and performs data management and quality control procedures as necessary for routine and special projects.
• Designs and implements novel methods for data analysis and integration.
• Writes scripts and programs for data processing and data acquisition from online repositories.
• Keeps analysis logs, creates explanatory files (e.g. README files), and follows best practice for the repeatability of analyses.
• Provides reports and creates tabular and graphic summaries of analyses suitable for inclusion in manuscripts and presentations.
• Travels to project-specific administrative and national clinical meetings to present findings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• 1-3 years related work experience required.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze next generation sequencing datasets including RNA-Seq, Exome/Whole Genome Sequencing.
• Ability to apply existing algorithms in the analysis of such data and derive novel programs if necessary.
• Experience in R/Bioconductor, bash scripting, and working in a Linux/HPC environment preferred.
• Advanced skills with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in data management and quality control procedures.
• Familiarity with creating complex documents and performing data analysis.
