About the position

As a BIM/VDC Lead Designer at Bruce & Merrilees, you will play a vital role in developing accurate physical layouts of electrical systems using advanced 3D modeling techniques. This position emphasizes teamwork and collaboration, contributing to the company's commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for coordinating with various trades, supporting estimation processes, and leading multi-trade coordination efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive, functionally, and dimensionally accurate physical layout of electrical systems based on 3D scans and engineering design.
  • Provide overall development of coordinated electrical model for internal fabrication and with other trades.
  • Conduct BIM Coordination to review and analyze equipment and material submittals with respect to physical layout, interfaces, and constructability.
  • Support the estimation process and planning of VDC efforts.
  • Create 3D models of moderately to highly complex elements of electrical infrastructure and distribution.
  • Lead internal coordination and represent the company in multi-trade coordination efforts, resolving conflicts and clashes as necessary.
  • Produce prefabrication spools and maintain layout points for Trimble Total Station.
  • Develop 3D models that include subsurface data from Ground Penetrating Radar scanning and aerial data from drone surveys.

Requirements

  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree with 3 years of experience or equivalent job experience including field experience.
  • 6+ years of experience required for candidates with a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and constructability practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of Autodesk design tools (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks) and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and ability to handle non-standard situations.
