About the position

The position involves verifying the accuracy of billing forms and entering pertinent data into appropriate databases to ensure timely and optimal reimbursement. The role requires investigating account billing inquiries by reviewing documentation for completeness and accuracy, including CPT and ICD-9 coding, physician data, insurance coverage, and other relevant data. Additionally, the individual will prepare appropriate documentation for account inquiries and resolutions, maintain a database of account inquiry information, and generate reports and summaries as requested. The position also entails investigating causes for denials and utilizing established protocols to effect satisfactory resolutions. Effective communication with patients and other appropriate parties regarding open accounts, incorrect information, and installment payment arrangements is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies accuracy of billing forms and enters pertinent data in appropriate databases.
  • Investigates account billing inquiries, reviewing documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepares appropriate documentation for account inquiry and resolution.
  • Maintains a database of account inquiry information and generates reports and summaries as requested.
  • Investigates causes for denials and utilizes established protocols to effect satisfactory resolution.
  • Communicates with patients and other appropriate parties regarding open accounts and payment arrangements.

Requirements

  • Two to three (2-3) years of Medical billing experience required.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and 3rd party reimbursement as well as ICD-9 and CPT coding.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients and staff under pressure.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and deal with individuals under stress.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to accurately record financial information.

Nice-to-haves

  • Accounting and/or financial reporting experience preferred.
  • Prior supervision experience helpful.
