About the position

The Bilingual Community Health Worker (CHW) serves as a vital link between Berks Community Health Center and the local community, focusing on providing culturally appropriate health education and support. This role involves outreach to underserved populations, advocating for health needs, and delivering direct services such as first aid and health screenings. The CHW aims to improve access to healthcare, enhance community understanding, and reduce health disparities in Berks County.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with residents by having a presence at the Neighborhood Resource Center twice a week.
  • Share information/resources and listen to resident comments/input/needs.
  • Be accessible to residents and regularly attend community events such as Resident Council meetings.
  • Coordinate educational, recreational, and community development activities jointly identified by BCHC and RHA for residents.
  • Participate/Lead the Advisory Council to the Community Center for Services.

Requirements

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and another language.
  • Knowledge and experience of the community served.
  • Ability to provide informal counseling and guidance on health behaviors.
  • Experience in community outreach and health education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in organizing community events.
  • Familiarity with health care services and resources available in the community.
