About the position

The Bilingual Certified Teacher position at Devereux involves providing high-quality educational services to unaccompanied children in a shelter program. The role focuses on delivering instruction in core subjects such as mathematics, language arts, science, and social studies, while also addressing the social and emotional needs of the students. The teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans, conducting assessments, and maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates skills and knowledge to implement and manage classroom program services including assessment and lesson planning.
• Performs initial screening and periodic assessments on a timely basis.
• Develops, implements, and monitors individual and classroom curriculum to meet educational, social, and behavioral needs.
• Prepares progress reports and other educational data reports.
• Establishes a classroom environment conducive to maximum learning and socially appropriate behavior.
• Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe classroom environment.
• Supervises students and is responsible for their welfare and safety at all times.
• Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review and evaluate students' progress and attends all staff meetings and training.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education or relevant field required; Master's degree preferred.
• Experience in a multi-grade setting and meet Connecticut licensing/certification requirements for teaching.
• Teaching English as a Second Language/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification or equivalent.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Empathetic with a team approach to care for individuals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Fully immunized/vaccinated for Varicella, MMR, TdAp, Influenza or have a medical/religious exemption.
• Must be 21 years of age or older (per licensing standards).
• Valid Connecticut Driver's License.
