About the position

Cognito LLC, a joint venture with Planned Systems International (PSI), is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician to support the ICE Health Services Corps (IHSC) in Houston, Texas. This role involves providing high-quality healthcare to individuals in ICE custody, focusing on mental health screenings, patient care management, and facilitating psycho-educational groups. The BHT will work under the supervision of licensed Behavioral Health Providers to ensure patient safety and engagement in a therapeutic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services to assigned population under clinical direction.
  • Collect health data and observe patient behaviors during wellness checks.
  • Perform sleep hygiene encounters and checks as directed.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living as needed.
  • Educate patients on health and general program information.
  • Monitor patient safety and risk.
  • Escort detainees to appointments as required.
  • Observe patient behaviors during programming and recreation activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of behavioral health interventions and psychotropic medications.
  • Facilitate therapeutic and psycho-educational groups and provide individual patient education.
  • Assist in developing behavioral treatment interventions such as coping skills and anger management.
  • Gather patient care information to assist providers with diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Document clinical observations of patient behavior and overall functioning.
  • Perform wellness checks and monitor special needs patients.
  • Conduct crisis management in emergent situations according to facility procedures.
  • Manage program schedules including group sessions and telehealth appointments.
  • Chaperone and record vital signs for Tele-Behavioral Health appointments.
  • Engage in professional development through education and workshops.
  • Adhere to relevant healthcare standards and maintain proficiency in electronic health records.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in a behavioral science/specialty field.
  • American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (AAPT) certification at level three within 12 months of hire.
  • Current BLS for Provider certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Two years of work experience in a mental health clinic or residential healthcare setting.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen, and maintain current physical and immunizations.
