About the position

The Behavioral Health Senior Clinician position is a key role within a state-of-the-art clinical treatment facility focused on integrated behavioral health care. This position involves serving adults with serious mental illness, substance dependence disorders, and co-occurring disorders, while also addressing developmental disabilities and physical illnesses. The clinician will function independently as a primary case manager and therapist, providing comprehensive assessment and treatment services, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective care delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex evaluations and make independent diagnoses using the DSM.
  • Provide individual, family, and group treatment.
  • Maintain a diverse caseload of clients with acute and chronic mental illness.
  • Approve and implement therapeutic treatment plans.
  • Conduct intensive clinical interventions and family therapy in a residential setting.
  • Prepare court-ordered diagnostic and forensic evaluations.
  • Provide discharge planning and coordination of after-care service plans for clients leaving psychiatric hospitals.
  • Collaborate with service professionals as a participant/lead of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).
  • Consult with professionals on delivery of needed services for clinically complex cases.
  • Provide liaison to community agencies to facilitate communication and service provision for clients requiring multiple services.
  • Monitor and analyze the impact of psychotropic medication on client's functioning and mental status.
  • Provide risk assessments for dangerousness to self and others.
  • Provide crisis stabilization and crisis management.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing.
  • Two years of clinical experience.
  • Possession of a current license to practice in Virginia as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, or Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • A valid motor vehicle driver's license with fewer than six demerit points.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience providing integrated services to seriously mentally ill and substance use disorder adults.
  • Experience with crisis management.
  • Experience providing group-based interventions.
  • Knowledge of DSM and diagnostic intake procedures.
  • Experience with psychotropic medication and its effects.
  • Skilled in motivational interviewing and stages of change.
