About the position
The Behavior Support Specialist at Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health plays a crucial role in providing therapeutic support to adolescents with Autism and/or Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. This position focuses on helping children overcome various behavioral challenges, fostering their emotional and cognitive development in a supportive and collaborative environment. Responsibilities
- Provide therapeutic support to individuals with behavioral issues.
- Help children overcome challenges in learning, problem solving, impulse control, judgment, communication, social interaction, and adaptive functioning.
- Create individualized treatment and education plans that leverage the strengths of each child while addressing their specific behaviors.
- Assist children with personal care needs, including changing diapers and pull-ups for those who are not toilet trained.
- Manage and respond to challenging behaviors such as hitting, biting, kicking, scratching, and pinching.
- Support children in managing their emotions and reducing instances of physical and verbal aggression.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Valid driver's license must be maintained.
- One year of previous experience in a psychiatric facility preferred.
- One year of experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Intellectual Disabilities preferred.
