About the position

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Youth Basketball Instructor & Official to join our team and play a pivotal role in the development of young basketball players. As a Youth Basketball Instructor & Official, you will be responsible for teaching fundamental soccer skills, officiating games & facilitating practices, and ensuring a fun and educational experience for our participants. Instructor/Official Shifts are weekends only with shifts available on Saturday and/or Sunday. Our venues are located across Vienna, Reston, Fairfax, & Annandale/Falls Church. Upcoming Schedule: Weekends Only - Saturday & Sunday Options June 7th to July 12th - Summer League July 19th to Aug 20th - Late Summer League.

Responsibilities

  • Teach young athletes the fundamental skills and techniques of basketball including dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending.
  • Implement age-appropriate drills and exercises to enhance players' basketball abilities (Practice plans created and provided by i9 Sports).
  • Provide constructive feedback to help players improve their performance.
  • Complete mandatory pre season training sessions (Financially Compensated).
  • Serve as an official for youth basketball games, ensuring fair play and adherence to rules.
  • Maintain a professional and unbiased demeanor while officiating games.
  • Address rule violations and conflicts with fairness and diplomacy.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants during practices & games.
  • Supervise and manage groups of young athletes, maintaining a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Address any safety concerns promptly and appropriately.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents, participants, and fellow staff members.
  • Provide updates on program activities via Connecteam.
  • Address questions, concerns, and feedback from parents and participants professionally.

Requirements

  • Previous experience coaching or playing basketball.
  • Knowledge of soccer rules and regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working with children and parents.
  • A passion for youth sports and the development of young athletes.
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
  • Availability to work each weekend of the given season (Late Fall, Winter, Spring, etc.).
  • Ability to efficiently solve problems.
  • Ability to motivate and manage others (i.e. coaches).
  • Extremely reliable and responsible.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Must have own vehicle/reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to pass background check.
