About the position

The Banquet Captain at InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown is responsible for leading the set-up, service, and clean-up of banquet functions. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to manage and train banquet staff while ensuring a high level of guest satisfaction. The Banquet Captain plays a crucial role in maintaining the quality and efficiency of banquet operations, working closely with kitchen staff and overseeing the performance of scheduled banquet staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the set-up and break-down of banquet functions during assigned shifts.
  • Ensure the security and proper storage of banquet inventory and equipment.
  • Check storage areas for proper supplies, organization, and cleanliness.
  • Minimize misuse and breakage of china, glassware, linen, and supplies.
  • Work closely with Kitchen Staff to communicate speed of service, client numbers, and special requests.
  • Set up, serve, and/or break down banquet functions.
  • Assign work and monitor the performance of scheduled banquet staff.
  • Provide training and corrective instructions to staff.
  • Greet guests upon arrival and respond to requests or complaints promptly.
  • Inspect scheduled function areas for cleanliness and proper layout.

Requirements

  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • One year of experience in banquet service or set-up.
  • Ability to handle, carry, or lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with guests and leading others.
  • Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government agency.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a luxury hotel environment.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage service standards.
