About the position

The Background Investigator position at Peraton involves conducting thorough background investigations to determine the employment suitability of individuals requiring access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information. This role requires daily travel for in-person interviews and record searches, as well as the completion of a comprehensive training program to ensure compliance with Federal Investigative Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete a full-time, 6-7 week new Investigator training both virtually and in person to be certified in Federal Investigative Standards.
  • Travel daily to conduct in-person background investigations.
  • Schedule and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects and their contacts, including neighbors, employers, friends, and family.
  • Perform record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational and financial institutions, and medical/mental health facilities.
  • Type and report all obtained information clearly and concisely on a government-issued computer system.
  • Work independently while also being a member of a team of Investigators and with a Field Manager.

Requirements

  • 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor's degree; experience conducting DCSA/NBIB or other federal background investigations preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance; active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication preferred.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Daily travel required locally and outside of primary work area as needed.
  • Home office required; Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY)/remote travel ranging from 14 - 30 days may be required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required; driving is an essential function of the job.
  • Accurate and efficient typing capabilities (40+ WPM recommended).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone; record, read, and transcribe words and numbers accurately.
  • Proficient grammar and writing skills to submit high-quality reports with minimal errors.
  • Professional interaction with others, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
