About the position

The AWS Database Administrator is responsible for managing and automating database operations in AWS, focusing on RDS and Lambda. This role requires extensive experience in database design, implementation, and performance tuning, with a strong emphasis on high-availability features and disaster recovery. The position involves collaboration with various teams to ensure optimal database performance and compliance with security standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data analysis and database management.
  • Automate database operations in AWS using RDS and Lambda with Python.
  • Maintain and enhance data dictionaries and database models.
  • Configure and manage database administration tools.
  • Provide database support for business applications and schedule backup jobs.
  • Manage access control and ensure IP compliance.
  • Conduct data purging and replication activities.
  • Research and resolve connectivity issues and database errors.
  • Respond to database alerts and take appropriate actions.
  • Create and maintain databases and perform performance tuning.
  • Provide technical assistance to users for application database maintenance.
  • Manage database account access and object changes.
  • Ensure monitoring and alerts meet requirements.
  • Perform application database and OS scripting.
  • Review compliance reports and notifications for databases.
  • Recover databases from logs and backups, and manage disaster recovery.
  • Monitor database performance and recommend resource utilization improvements.
  • Implement database security and auditing features, conducting root cause analysis for incidents.
  • Support heterogeneous database interfaces and middleware functionality deployment.
  • Plan and develop processes for database updates and migrations.
  • Conduct team training and manage resources.
  • Research new technologies for operational reliability and compliance.
  • Perform configuration management of database clusters and replications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA with expertise in design, implementation, backup, recovery, monitoring, and performance tuning.
  • 5+ years of experience with multiple AWS DB Services and Lambda for automating database jobs.
  • 5+ years of experience in database automation in AWS with RDS and Lambda using Python.
  • Expertise in high-availability database features, replication, disaster recovery, and live production schema changes.
  • Proficiency with cloud-specific technologies (S3, Route 53, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, AWS Cloudwatch, AWS RDS, AWS Redshift, DynamoDB, Redis) and version control tools (Git).
  • Knowledge of database security, backup retention policies, and scaling databases.
  • Experience managing the full life cycle of database schema design and implementation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Oracle, Postgres, and AuroraDB.
