The Mental Health Specialist II (MHS2) works in our Acute Behavioral Services (ABS) programs, which are highly specialized programs serving individuals with intensive behavioral and mental health needs. The individuals receiving these services often have a history of being placed in highly restricted facilities, experiencing high incidents of crisis situations, and facing multiple hospitalizations or institutional stays. These group homes have been modified to eliminate safety concerns, and consistency and routine are key factors in the success of these programs. MHS2s are trained for manual restraints and may experience mental, emotional, and physical manipulation from the individuals they support, including exposure to severe verbal aggression. The role utilizes a person-centered approach to help individuals reach their goals while ensuring safety for everyone involved.
