About the position

The Ford-Lincoln Veteran Careers Program aims to recruit and train qualified U.S. Military Veterans, Transitioning Military Service Members, and National Guard and Reserve Component Members as Automotive Service Technicians at Ford and Lincoln Dealerships. This highly competitive program focuses on developing former military maintenance and repair technicians into brand-certified service professionals, requiring a commitment to a four-week in-resident training course and long-term employment with a dealership. Eligible Veterans can utilize their GI Bill® housing allowance during the first two years of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnose the cause of malfunctions and perform repairs, if authorized by Service Consultants.
  • Coordinate with the Parts Department to ensure availability of parts.
  • Save and tag parts if under warranty or if requested by Service Consultants.
  • Examine the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required.
  • Notify Service Consultants if additional work is required or if repairs/work cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Document work performed as directed by Service Consultants.
  • Road test vehicles to ensure quality of repair and ensure vehicles remain clean.
  • Keep abreast of factory technical bulletins and attend factory-sponsored training classes.
  • Maintain the shop area by keeping it neat and clean and remain accountable for all tools used.
  • Understand and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including safety requirements and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Wear appropriate PPE, including safety glasses, and maintain safety awareness at all times.
  • Work closely with others or independently as required.
  • Wear dealership uniforms.

Requirements

  • Military Veterans with a maintenance-related career, technician, or mechanic experience.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening requirements (drug screening, credit score, motor vehicle record report, and background investigation).
  • An Honorable Discharge from the United States Military and proof of service and discharge if applicable.
  • Formal military schooling in a technical field such as mechanical, power generation, aviation maintenance, electrical, electronics, hydraulic systems, or other parallel technical specialized skills, with proof of technical training and job designation.
  • Completion of an Automotive Technology certificate or degree program from an accredited Vocational School or College.
