About the position

The Automotive Shop Manager will oversee the daily operations of an automotive reconditioning facility, ensuring high-quality service and customer satisfaction. This role requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of automotive repairs, and the ability to manage staff effectively while maintaining operational efficiency and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and supervise a team of automotive technicians and other shop personnel.
  • Oversee customer interactions, ensuring excellent communication and satisfaction.
  • Coordinate repair schedules to ensure timely completion of services.
  • Review and inspect repairs and maintenance services to ensure they meet industry standards and customer expectations.
  • Maintain inventory of parts and tools, ensuring the shop is adequately stocked and that parts are ordered in a timely manner.
  • Monitor shop expenses, labor costs, and profit margins, working with upper management to meet financial goals.
  • Ensure the shop complies with all safety regulations and industry best practices, conducting regular safety inspections.
  • Implement and refine shop processes to enhance operational efficiency and improve service quality.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the automotive repair industry, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive repair, diagnostics, and maintenance.
  • Proven experience managing and leading a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships, ensuring a high level of satisfaction.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues efficiently.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical certifications or college courses in automotive technology, business, or management are a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications are preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with shop management software.
