About the position

This position is for an Automation Technician at Viega's new plant in Mantua, OH, which is set to open in July 2025. The role involves ensuring machines operate at peak efficiency and quality, driving continuous improvement, and training team members. The position offers a unique opportunity to be part of the initial team that establishes the second factory in the US, contributing to building Viega's brand in the community. Comprehensive training will be provided in McPherson, KS, six months prior to the plant opening, with accommodation and local housing covered by the company during the training period.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure machines are operating at peak levels of quality and efficiency.
  • Drive improvements through the continuous improvement process.
  • Develop, train, and motivate team members through knowledge and expertise.
  • Complete the changeover of machines for production runs.
  • Monitor machines per control plan to ensure the process is running according to specification.
  • Relieve operators and fill in for supervisors as needed.
  • Maintain set-up records for each machine and products produced; submit first article inspection parts to quality for approval.
  • Make minor mechanical repairs and adjustments to machines; notify leadership when major service is required.
  • Assemble equipment and tooling for scheduled production runs.
  • Answer equipment alarms and observe machine operation to detect defects or malfunctions.
  • Ensure efficient production to help achieve production scrap and OEE goals.
  • Safely and efficiently shut down equipment.
  • Inspect tooling before and after production runs to ensure quality and communicate any issues to the appropriate departments.
  • Maintain documentation on processing and tooling issues and ensure company policies are followed.
  • Process and control any non-conformance defects with production parts.

Requirements

  • High School Education or equivalent.
  • 3-5+ years of manufacturing experience and prior experience running automated equipment (i.e. robotics, packaging or assembly cells).
  • Knowledge of companies' policies and procedures regarding health and safety issues.
  • Ability to carry out instructions in written, verbal and diagram form.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite and experience in SAP.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work with little supervision.
  • Good communication skills and ability to solve problems and make quick decisions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with HMI controls.
  • Experience with SOP and set-point tracking is preferred.
