About the position

The Automation Controls Engineer at Deshazo is responsible for developing industrial control systems from inception to completion. This role requires technical proficiency in various industrial controls platforms and involves direct interaction with customers during design reviews, project updates, and installations.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical design of complete automation systems using AutoCAD Electrical software, including power distribution, safety circuits, I/O controls, communications, and panel layout drawings.
  • Calculating panel SCCR, power rating, and FLA for panel rating.
  • Directing electrical assembly during equipment build.
  • From-scratch, start-to-finish PLC, HMI, and robot programming for custom equipment, conveyor lines, and robot cells.
  • Configuring, debugging, and testing equipment on the shop floor in preparation for customer reviews.
  • Leading runoff on the shop floor with customers.
  • Directing electrical assembly during installation of equipment.
  • Leading start-up at customer sites and driving projects to completion.
  • Managing time and costs to stay within budget and on schedule.

Requirements

  • BS in a related engineering field or 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of controls experience in the machine building OEM industry preferred.
  • Ability to travel and work at customer facilities for 30% of the time, typically in 2-week spurts.
  • Solid understanding of industrial controls and robotics concepts.
  • Proven ability in robot programming, preferably with Fanuc.
  • Experience setting up machine vision for presence and inspection, preferably with Cognex and/or Fanuc IRVision.
  • Talent in programming in a ladder logic environment: Allen Bradley Studio5000, Siemens Tia Portal, Proficy Machine Edition, and/or Toyopuc PCWin.
  • Experience setting up Remote IO and other components on industrial networks such as DeviceNet, Profibus, ProfiNet, Ethernet/IP.
  • Experience setting up Allen Bradley and/or GE HMI screens/panels.
  • Strong communication skills within the Deshazo organization and with customers.
  • Ability to lead a project at installation and serve as the main customer interface.
  • Understanding of RIA Robot Safety Standards, OSHA Safety Standards, and NFPA 79 standards.
