About the position

The Auto Physical Damage Claims Adjuster role at Farmers involves conducting in-person or virtual inspections of vehicles to assess damages and negotiate settlements for claims. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including customers and repair facilities, to ensure effective claims management and customer service. The adjuster will also mentor less experienced colleagues and handle administrative tasks related to claims processing.

Responsibilities

  • Completes in-person or virtual vehicle inspections on repairable and/or total loss vehicles.
  • Establishes damages and negotiates settlement of claims with customers and repair facilities.
  • Reviews and adjusts estimates from repair facilities and subrogation claims.
  • Manages rental on assigned claims and works independently or collaboratively with Claim Owners.
  • Provides excellent service to internal and external customers, potentially acting as Claim Owner on Tier 1 claims.
  • Inspects and appraises damaged property and vehicles using claims estimating software.
  • Completes auto repair estimates or adjusts repair facility estimates and manages the repair process.
  • Completes vehicle total loss inspections/valuations and explains the total loss process.
  • Interacts with policyholders, claimants, agents, repair facilities, and attorneys to set appointments and explain damages.
  • Collaborates with claim owners for customer interaction and resolution strategy.
  • Mentors less experienced adjusters and demonstrates leadership skills in the workplace.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred or an automotive related Associate of Applied Science degree.
  • 12 months of previous APD estimating experience required or consistent demonstration of technical proficiency.
  • Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Damage Appraiser license is required.
  • Proficient negotiating skills and in-person interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and intermediate knowledge of body and mechanical repair/replace operations.
  • Proficient conflict resolution and critical thinking skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Outside insurance education, e.g., CPCU or GCA is preferred.
  • Actively pursuing I-CAR Pro designation and other technical education.
