About the position

Vanguard's Internal Audit & SOX (IAS) department has an exciting opportunity in our Center for Audit Practices and Enablement (CAPE) team. This team is responsible for providing leading practices and services to IAS related to delivery of assurance and consulting engagements (e.g., methodology, quality assurance), people (e.g., talent management, learning and development), and operations (e.g., technology, communications). We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join our team as an Internal Audit Methodology & Quality Assurance Specialist. Day to day responsibilities include execution and oversight of portions of the Internal Audit Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP) and support of a range of projects requiring audit and risk management expertise, including maintenance and updates to the department's audit methodology and assistance with the annual/quarterly audit planning process. Additional responsibilities include the opportunity to assist with the development and delivery of guidance and training related to audit methodology to IAS crew globally. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in internal audit and a deep passion for the audit profession.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the development and maintenance of the department's methodology and quality assurance programs, including benchmarking the audit methodology against professional standards, regulatory expectations, and leading practices.
• Conduct independent quality assessments of internal audit activities to ensure consistent application of methodology and standards, support continuous improvement efforts, and reduce audit risk.
• Support the department's strategic initiatives, particularly those that impact or are impacted by IAS's methodology, ensuring changes are consistent with industry standards and practices.
• Assist with annual audit planning, enabling the department to prioritize risks and allocate resources. Ensure a consistent methodology across audit teams and coordinate data gathering to support management reporting related to the annual plan.
• Build strong relationships with IAS stakeholders across all levels and teams. Act as a technical resource to educate stakeholders and ensure that audit practices and deliverables align with relevant industry standards, requirements, and best practices, including the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Global Audit Standards. Identify training opportunities and provide direct coaching and development to the team.
• Support the coordination of regulatory or client/prospective client requests for information regarding IAS activities and results.
• Maintain and actively leverage relationships with internal and external business partners, industry networks, and professional organizations to stay informed about industry trends and developments.
• Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience in audit, risk or controls functions (e.g., internal audits, operational audits, advisory/consulting/compliance, professional practices, audit operations) with a strong understanding of audit principles, practices, and methodologies; experience in the financial services industry is a plus.
• Experience leading and managing the development and maintenance of audit methodology and quality assurance programs; skilled in conducting quality assessments of internal audit activities to ensure consistent application of methodology and standards, support continuous improvement efforts, and reduce audit risk.
• Strong project management skills including: prioritization, managing multiple initiatives simultaneously, anticipating next steps, adapting to changing situations, and meeting deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across various teams and levels in a dynamic environment to influence and drive change, generate creative approaches/solutions, and execute and deliver initiatives.
• Demonstrated passion for the audit profession, with a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
• Team oriented mindset - willingness to support asks across the board, ranging from operational responsibilities to strategic projects.

Nice-to-haves

• Minimum of five years related work experience. Audit, risk, or controls experience preferred.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
• CIA or other financial designation preferred.
