About the position

We are offering a long-term contract employment opportunity for an Attorney/Lawyer in Plantation, Florida, focusing on consumer and housing law within the nonprofit sector. This hybrid role allows for both on-site and remote work, depending on the organization's needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth client intake interviews and manage client-related phone calls.
  • Advise clients on housing and consumer law issues, informing them of their legal rights.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze statutes and relevant case law.
  • Evaluate potential outcomes of cases, using knowledge of legal precedence.
  • Develop strategies and arguments in preparation for presenting cases.
  • Handle client documents and prepare legal documents for clients' housing and consumer law cases.
  • Attend court hearings and trials, representing clients in court.
  • Engage in the process of discovery and depositions.
  • Supervise paralegals, assign tasks, review all legal work and monitor workload.
  • Communicate case progress, status, issues and outcomes to supervising attorneys.
  • Participate in community outreach events in-person and virtually, as well as on social media.
  • Comply with program and grant requirements, maintaining records, case notes and daily time-keeping in the case management system.

Requirements

  • Must hold a law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Must be a member in good standing of the Florida Bar.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as an Attorney or Lawyer.
  • Litigation experience, preferably in foreclosure and/or eviction defense.
  • Proficiency in Consumer and Fair Housing Law.
  • Experience in drafting legal documents.
  • Strong skills in legal research.
  • Experience with client intake processes.
  • Familiarity with the discovery process in legal proceedings.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for client interaction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of integrity and professional accountability.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in legal software and Microsoft Office Suite.
