We provide Subject Matter Experts (SME) free of Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) focused on independent analysis and mission support services within the disciplines of Engineering, Counter Terrorism Operations, Management, Information Technology, Signals Analysis, Administration, Cyber Security and Linguistics. FTS has an opportunity for an Attitude Control Systems (ACS) Engineer in Chantilly, VA. The Attitude Control Systems (ACS) Engineer will be an integral participant in ACS and mechanical actuator design, requirements development & verification, and unit integration & test for a next generation spacecraft architecture.

Requirements

  • TS/SCI with polygraph
  • BS degree in Aerospace, Astronautical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 9+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in DoD IC acquisition and program management processes
  • Working knowledge of control theory, reaction wheel/control moment gyro, star sensor/tracker, inertial reference units/sensors, sun sensor, magnetic torque rod, GPS receiver, and control algorithm development
  • Experience in the design & integration of satellite buses and knowledgeable of launch & flight operations of space vehicles
  • Ability to work collaboratively with personnel from multiple functions and at all levels of the customer organization to deliver results

Nice To Haves

  • MS degree in Aerospace, Astronautical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Education and experience with spacecraft ACS hardware and software design, manufacture, simulation, and test

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, track, and report on progress & issues associated with spaceflight hardware currently in production and test for a classified space program
  • Review and coordinate changes to specifications, ICDs, and system level requirements documentation for ACS and propulsion subsystems
  • Track development issues and attend unit, subsystem, system level design reviews
  • Support launch and spacecraft on-orbit test, as required
  • Identify & assess emerging risks and develop & evaluate proposed burn-down plans
  • Review developer’s readiness to proceed into spacecraft test at various levels of assembly
