The Athletic Communications Assistant plays a crucial role in the Athletic Communications office, which serves as the primary public interface for the University of Pennsylvania's Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics (DRIA) and its 33 varsity programs. This position is responsible for positively promoting the University’s nearly 1,000 student-athletes and over 200 coaches, staff, and athletic administrators. The assistant will act as the primary media contact for varsity sports, ensuring that all external publicity for the programs is managed effectively. This includes coordinating and overseeing all media-related responsibilities for assigned teams, which primarily involves conducting interviews with coaches and team members, as well as managing the content on the Penn Athletics website, PennAthletics.com. The role also encompasses social media management, where the assistant will be responsible for posting updates and engaging with fans across various platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. In addition to media relations, the Athletic Communications Assistant will coordinate game-day activities, which include handling media requests, setting up parking and credentials, and managing in-game statistics. The assistant will also be tasked with archiving and publishing statistics for their assigned sports, ensuring that record books are kept up to date. Furthermore, the role requires collaboration with other departments within DRIA, such as marketing and graphic design, to promote ticket events and student outreach initiatives. The assistant will also coordinate media coverage for Athletics-related development events and ensure that ESPN+ broadcasts are properly managed. Travel with teams may be required, particularly during postseason events. Candidates for this position must possess a Bachelor's Degree and demonstrate strong written, interpersonal, and computer skills. Time management is essential, as the assistant will be expected to juggle multiple tasks daily. Compliance with all Ivy League and NCAA rules and regulations is mandatory, and the candidate must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. A valid driver's license is also required for this role.
