About the position

The Head Boys Swimming Coach at Mayport Coastal Sciences Middle School is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the boys swimming program, ensuring compliance with district policies and athletic regulations. This part-time position involves coaching, supervising athletes, and promoting their academic and athletic development while fostering a positive team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Announce and enforce rules pertaining to conditioning of players and training rules affecting health and safety.
  • Attend mandatory FHSAA rules clinics and Gateway Conference meetings, and pursue professional development through coaching clinics.
  • Cooperate with the athletic director to establish physical examinations and verify completion of necessary health forms for athletes.
  • Conduct and supervise at least one fundraising activity for the sport.
  • Ensure constant supervision of the team, including locker room oversight and post-practice athlete pickup.
  • Know and enforce rules and regulations required by Title IX, FHSAA, and the Duval County School Board.
  • Monitor academic progress of each team member weekly.
  • Organize practice and game responsibilities, providing clear duties for coaching staff.
  • Report injuries to the athletic trainer and complete necessary documentation, ensuring proper medical clearance for injured athletes before participation.
  • Support and actively participate in improving the athletic program and the overall educational program of the school.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Previous experience preferred as an athletic coach or in the coaching arena.
  • Completion of required athletic coaching courses including First Aid, CPR, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and Concussion in Sports (NFHS courses), AED training, and Florida Department of Education Certificate (Athletic Coaching).
  • Knowledge of the sport and associated strategies.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills.
  • Strong leadership and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to conduct staff meetings and manage all tryouts, practices, team meetings, and athletic contests.
  • Ability to serve as a role model for student-athletes by maintaining professional behavior at all times.
  • Ability to motivate student-athletes to achieve their best effort and results.

Benefits

  • Part-time position with a pay of up to $1,864 a week.
