About the position

The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for complete care coordination for an assigned set of patients to include the following duties as well as adhering to the job responsibilities outlined in the description of their designation on the Johns Hopkins clinical nurse ladder. This position requires clinical knowledge of fetal anomalies and of the treatment outlined for each fetal condition.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and review referrals for fetal evaluation and/or intervention, triage and assign priority based on the urgency of condition
  • Contact patients to register and schedule appropriately based on the time line as well as providing an outline of what to expect during first visit
  • Verify patient demographics (best phone to reach), obtain emergency contact information and name/contact information for referring providers (OB and MFM)
  • Obtain medical records to include prenatal, ultrasound, labs and genetic testing results
  • Provide prenatal nursing care for fetal therapy intervention patients
  • Perform fetal biophysical profile ultrasound (certified within one year) and nonstress testing
  • Provide care during fetal interventional procedures when indicated (requires knowledge of use and care of specialized fetal equipment)
  • Coordinate consults with pediatric specialties as ordered by physician and schedule follow up appointments as indicated by care path
  • Manages operations pertinent to the interventional equipment used in fetal therapy diagnostic and interventional procedures
  • Organizational oversight of center presence at national fetal medicine meetings
  • Operational oversight of communications and patient care communication between the center and referring physician practices
  • Knowledge about insurance authorization procedures and the initiation of the necessary steps to facilitate patient access from a multi-state referral area to the center
  • Complex multidisciplinary scheduling

Requirements

  • Requires Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing
  • Active Maryland or Compact RN license is required
  • BLS CPR certification required: AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted
  • Five years of experience as a registered nurse
  • Three years of supervisory experience on a nursing unit (previous experience in high-risk OB and fetal assessment strongly desired)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification required
