Associate, System Engineering

About the position

The Associate, System Engineering role at BlackRock involves providing operational support for the Aladdin Enterprise Investment System. The position requires monitoring and troubleshooting various components to ensure system availability and performance. The role also includes participating in projects aimed at enhancing system resiliency and stability. Key responsibilities include utilizing Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and Ansible, setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, and automating operational tasks using programming languages such as Python, Perl, or Bash. The associate will also be involved in on-call duties, conducting analyses on Vault infrastructure, and supporting disaster recovery planning.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational support by monitoring and troubleshooting various components of BlackRock's Aladdin Enterprise Investment System.
• Participate in projects to enhance resiliency and ensure availability and stability of BlackRock's Aladdin systems.
• Utilize Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and Ansible to provision, manage and scale Vault Infrastructure and services On-Prem and Cloud.
• Setup and maintain CI/CD Pipelines by applying DevOps principles to automate lifecycle management of Vault clusters.
• Utilize programming and scripting languages, like Python, Perl or Bash to automate operational tasks and processes.
• Create, Deploy and Manage Vault MWH via GitOps Continuous Deployment framework.
• Participate in the weekly on-call schedule, monitoring health of Vault Clusters, Nodes, Application Servers, and troubleshooting Node failures.
• Conduct analyses on Vault infrastructure and cluster performance, and perform root cause diagnostics.
• Assist in the implementation of any Production Operations changes.
• Support the planning of disaster recovery contingencies of applications.
• Create and set up FTP transfer jobs between BlackRock and its clients.
• Monitor system resources including CPU and memory, and perform Linux resource management.
• Publish Monthly Capacity reports for Aladdin Infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
• Two years of experience in Hashicorp Vault administration and maintenance.
• Experience utilizing Unix operating systems and Linux platforms.
• Experience automating operational tasks using scripting and programming languages like Python, Perl, and Shell.
• Experience utilizing FTP and SFTP protocols.
• Experience monitoring system resources including CPU & memory.
• Experience conducting performance tuning.
• Experience utilizing Agile and DevOps methodologies.
• Experience performing Linux resource management.
• Experience setting up and maintaining CI/CD Pipelines.
• Experience deploying and managing Kubernetes objects via GitOps framework.
• Experience provisioning, upgrading, scaling and lifecycle management of Kubernetes clusters.
• Experience providing operational support to Kubernetes platforms.
• Experience automating provisions of Kubernetes infrastructure using Terraform and Ansible.
• Experience monitoring Kubernetes clusters using Prometheus and Grafana.
