About the position

Voith US Inc. is hiring an adaptable, solutions-oriented transactional lawyer to handle a variety of legal tasks, such as reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, providing commercial claim management and directing outside counsel. This lawyer will support all of the Voith businesses in North America, including Voith Paper, Voith Turbo and Voith Hydro. The position is based in Voith's offices in Appleton, Wisconsin with an optional hybrid-remote work schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate a variety of legal documents, from non-disclosure agreements to complex capital equipment and construction contracts.
  • Provide legal advice regarding the handling of commercial disputes and contract claims.
  • Manage arbitrations and litigation (with outside counsel support).
  • Ensure compliance with and interpret applicable laws and regulations, and provide guidance on company policies and practices, as well as best practices.
  • Advise and train employees on the Voith Group Code of Conduct and related compliance matters.
  • Retain, direct and manage outside counsel.
  • Handle and advise on other corporate and commercial matters and provide other legal advice and analysis to the Voith Group of Companies as needed.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar of Wisconsin or eligible to be a registered in-house counsel in Wisconsin.
  • At least three years of experience as an attorney with a focus on commercial matters (five or more years preferred).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Sound judgment and business acumen, a client-service focus, and the ability to prioritize and meet urgent deadlines.
  • Confidence and diplomacy, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Flexibility, open-mindedness and a willingness to learn from colleagues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a complex international business organization.
  • In-house experience.
  • Experience with government contracting, regulatory matters, compliance programs, M&A and corporate matters.
  • Experience with agreements concerning software-as-a-service (SaaS) and other digital products and services, automation, artificial intelligence, information technology and information security/data protection/cybersecurity.
  • French-language skills.
  • Experience with any of the tasks listed in the Responsibilities section above.
