About The Position

This position serves as the primary administrator for the Brock Center, owning core customer service and operational functions including scheduling, administrative support, and calendar management. In parallel, the role conducts research and advanced analysis—leveraging AI-enabled tools—to shape and validate early-stage healthcare startup concepts, identifying unmet needs and translating insights into actionable internal and external business opportunities across healthcare, life sciences, and digital health. The Brock Family Center for Applied Innovation works to accelerate the translation of discoveries and know-how to the public domain through commercialization and industry partnerships. The Center was established in 2023 through a $10 million gift from the Brock family and welcomes pitches from biotech and health tech startup companies interested in partnering with VUMC to further develop and validate their products in a real-world laboratory within a leading health care system.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule calls and meetings for team members and Brock Center portfolio teams.
  • Manage calendars for team members and alert team members of deadlines and conflicts.
  • Maintain contact lists, distribution lists, and communication records.
  • Provides courteous and professional customer service across all interactions.
  • Track and follow up on project progress including deadlines, deliverables, and milestones.
  • Support organized digital and physical filing systems for documents, contracts, and correspondence.
  • Create or update templates, standard operating procedures, and knowledge bases.
  • Assist in researching vendors, suppliers, or resources for team needs and coordinating procurement.
  • Help onboard new hires and/or contractors.
  • Support Brock Center staff in developing and accomplishing short and long-range program goals and objectives through active management of multiple projects in parallel.
  • Takes meeting minutes and distributes as report to participants.
  • Conduct structured research on healthcare markets, clinical workflows, patient needs, and regulatory landscapes to support high-potential startup opportunities.
  • Use AI-powered tools (e.g., literature analysis, market scanning, trend detection, competitive intelligence) to accelerate research, synthesize insights, and generate data-driven hypotheses.
  • Evaluate startup concepts for feasibility, differentiation, scalability, and alignment with healthcare industry constraints (clinical, regulatory, reimbursement).
  • Develop concise research outputs, including concept briefs, problem statements, value propositions, and evidence summaries to inform leadership and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (clinical, technical, business) to refine concepts and translate research findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Monitor emerging technologies, AI applications, and innovation trends within healthcare to continuously inform concept ideation and refinement.
  • Educates Brock Center colleagues new skills acquired and/or efficient processes developed.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as needed to ensure efficient day-to-day operations and increase Center capacity while obtaining professional growth.
