About the position

The Associate Merchant position at Floor & Decor is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to establish the company as a leader in the hard surface flooring industry. This role involves managing an entire product category, including planning, budgeting, analysis, advertising, and inventory management, with full profit and loss responsibility. The Associate Merchant will work closely with senior team members to ensure product assortments meet market needs and drive sales and margin growth.

Responsibilities

  • Establish overall company-wide strategies for category to maximize sales and margin.
  • Achieve budgeted targets for sales and margin in respective product categories.
  • Be an industry expert with thorough knowledge of products, vendors, competition, and trends.
  • Assess industry trends to provide strategic guidance for planning.
  • Create best-in-class product assortments to maximize regional sales.
  • Negotiate lowest prices and best terms with vendors.
  • Develop successful vendor partnerships for long-term strategic relationships.
  • Partner with Senior Director Regional Merchandising to execute assortments by store and market.
  • Work with Inventory team to improve turns and in-stocks through forecasting and vendor management.
  • Collaborate with marketing team on promotional strategies and new product launches.
  • Provide input on category visual display and signage strategies.
  • Develop category-specific training materials and new product communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing and/or Merchandising preferred.
  • Three years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in recognizing and maximizing market trends.
  • Track record of buying and inventory management experience.
  • Effective negotiation skills with positive outcomes.
  • Strong leadership, planning, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
