About the position

The Associate Director, Foundations Relations at Indiana University is responsible for managing relationships with private foundations to secure funding for the university. This role involves collaboration with faculty, academic leadership, and various internal stakeholders to identify funding opportunities, develop proposals, and ensure compliance with university procedures. The position plays a crucial role in cultivating and soliciting gifts, grants, and contracts from foundations, while also supporting faculty development and maintaining communication with funders.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with university leaders, faculty members, and development colleagues to pursue funding opportunities.
  • Identify funding priorities and develop strategies to cultivate and request funding.
  • Draft and revise proposals and ensure compliance with internal procedures.
  • Connect with faculty members and research deans to discuss funding strategies.
  • Draft and finalize grant reports in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Communicate with funders to share impact and facilitate connections with PIs and university leadership.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts, grants, and contracts from foundations.
  • Create tailored proposals to raise significant foundation support for Indiana University.
  • Execute strategy for top foundation prospects in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Support faculty development by distributing funding opportunities and planning programs to increase support for research.
  • Visit local, regional, and national foundations, providing timely follow-up with requests for information.
  • Establish and implement procedures for acknowledging foundation pledges and gifts.
  • Research and analyze data to identify foundation prospects and prioritize support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (required).
  • Master's degree (preferred).
  • 2 years of experience in fundraising/development, sales, communications, or related field (required).
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills.
  • Ability to build strong customer relationships.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Ability to identify criteria for prestigious awards and national academy memberships.
  • Knowledge of Indiana University's academic community and faculty achievements.
  • Highly organized with excellent project management skills.
