About the position

The Associate Director of the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program coordinates and supervises the work of the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program (ADAP). This role includes providing clinical training for the University's law students and fulfilling public relations, public outreach, and education duties. ADAP is the statewide protection and advocacy system for the State of Alabama, working to achieve fairness and justice for Alabamians with disabilities. The program provides legally-based advocacy services, conducts complex litigation to support systems change on behalf of persons with disabilities, investigates allegations of abuse and neglect against persons with disabilities, participates in legislative and regulatory advocacy work, and conducts education and outreach about disability rights. The position is eligible for hybrid work subject to University policy.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise the work of the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program (ADAP)
  • Provide clinical training for law students
  • Fulfill public relations, public outreach, and education duties
  • Conduct education and outreach about disability rights
  • Investigate allegations of abuse and neglect against persons with disabilities
  • Participate in legislative and regulatory advocacy work
  • Conduct complex litigation to support systems change on behalf of persons with disabilities

Requirements

  • Juris doctorate and four (4) years of law practice experience with a specialty in disability law; OR
  • Master's degree and four (4) years of experience managing a disability services program
  • Extensive in-state travel is required
  • Must have valid U.S. driver's license
  • Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report in compliance with University policies

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant field with at least four (4) years of supervisory or management experience
  • Clinical background or social work background
