About the position

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is seeking a candidate for a leadership role overseeing the College's research and scholarship. The successful candidate will work with faculty to develop, facilitate, and obtain new revenue streams through grants and other resources to enhance the College's research activities and promote visibility of those efforts. This position is exempt and subject to grant funding.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and oversight for the research mission in the college.
  • Evaluates new research center opportunities.
  • Manages college-level indirect cost recovery, researches restricted accounts, and researches operational and capital budgets.
  • Collaborates with the appropriate dean's office staff on space/facilities issues as they intersect with research needs.
  • Build additional infrastructure in the college to support the research mission across all divisions.
  • Engages with the college's research centers in developing and implementing goals and generating strategic plans and annual reports.
  • Interacts with the VPR, OSP, and the IRB on behalf of the college, manages their faculty appointees.
  • Mentors faculty (especially junior faculty) on research career issues.
  • Works with faculty and administration to develop, facilitate and obtain new revenue streams through grants and other resources.
  • Leads and implements training and development opportunities to promote faculty success in acquiring research and fellowship support.
  • Facilitates the submission of proposals and coordinate the post-award administration of grants and contracts as needed.
  • Advocates with University Research Administration on behalf of college research efforts.
  • Develops, implements, and oversees the Dean's priority programs related to research.
  • Manages start-up packages for new faculty hires in collaboration with department heads and the Assistant Dean of Finance.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean of Academic and Faculty Affairs and the Director of Undergraduate Research to enhance support for student research.
  • Manages college funding programs for research.
  • Oversees faculty research awards.
  • Reviews and approves Conflict of Interest Disclosures.
  • Serves as the Coordinating Official for Federal Student Fellowships.
  • Works with NSU lobbyists and legal teams for political advocacy locally and nationally.
  • Recruits and stewards research donors and foundations in conjunction with advancement.
  • Provides presentations on OC and College research internally and in the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Record of academic and research excellence commensurate with the expectations of a major research university.
  • Demonstrated success in pursuing and leading research and engagement activities.
  • Demonstrated success in research responsibilities.
  • History of administrative experience, including budgetary matters, experience in resource allocation processes, and personnel management.
  • Doctoral Degree in Marine Biology or related field.
  • Ten (10) or more years of related experience.
