About the position

The Arthur Pinto & Stephen Bohlen Associate Dean for Inclusion and Diversity facilitates the Law School's efforts to ensure a diverse and inclusive learning environment. This position reports directly to the President and Dean of the Law School and works in collaboration with other institutional leaders and senior administrators to create a vibrant culture of appreciation and belonging. The Associate Dean for Inclusion and Diversity will also forge partnerships with campus leaders, faculty, staff, students, and external constituencies to establish, promote, and support the implementation of strategic and short-term strategies and policies related to inclusion and diversity.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting and fostering new initiatives that demonstrate Brooklyn Law School's commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, staff and visitors.
  • Collaborating with student-facing colleagues to develop and support policies that advance diversity and inclusion and support student success.
  • Enhancing the comprehensive student experience-academic, social, professional and financial-for students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Supporting faculty development programs that strive to create an inclusive learning environment and curriculum.
  • Working with other departments and senior administrators such as Student Affairs, Human Resources, and the Director of Equal Opportunity to manage intergroup or interpersonal relationships within and throughout the student community.
  • Partnering with Career Development to help students pursue employment opportunities that will diversify the world of legal practice.
  • Partner with the Office of Admissions to develop pipeline programs and engage in outreach that will encourage a broad cross-section of admitted applicants to enroll.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President and Dean.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for a JD.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant academic/professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with students, faculty, administrators and leadership to ensure a diverse and inclusive community.
  • Commitment and successful track record on diversity and inclusivity programming with a broad knowledge of related topics.
  • Strong quantitative, qualitative, analytical, and presentation skills; excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and demonstrated use of discretion and tact when handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships and collaborate with a broad and diverse set of constituencies for teamwork and consensus building.
  • Demonstrated leadership capacity and ability to work independently on concurrent projects under the pressure of multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced academic environment.
