About the position

The Associate Counsel, Litigation & Employment at Lyft is a self-motivated attorney role focused on civil and employment litigation. The position involves handling a variety of litigation matters, collaborating with various teams, and managing outside counsel to align legal strategies with Lyft's business objectives. The role requires a proactive approach to employment litigation and offers a hybrid work environment, requiring in-office presence three days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Independently handling a wide variety of litigation and pre-litigation matters in state and federal courts and administrative forums.
  • Investigating and responding to agency claims and charges.
  • Representing Lyft at administrative hearings and arbitrations, drafting pre-hearing submissions, and responding to discovery requests.
  • Collaborating closely with fellow Legal Team members and outside counsel to develop and carry out employment litigation strategy.
  • Managing outside counsel, including tactical guidance, staffing, case management, budgeting, and alignment with Lyft's broader legal strategy.
  • Proactively approaching all aspects of employment litigation, including pre-litigation, discovery, motion practice, witness preparation, and trial and appellate strategies.
  • Providing assistance and support to Lyft's Legal Team members and working closely with other teams, such as Human Resources, Finance, Product, and Policy.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in civil and/or employment litigation and trial experience.
  • J.D. from a top-tier law school.
  • Member of the California or New York bar.
  • Experience litigating a wide variety of labor & employment and/or civil matters, including administrative hearings, grievance hearings, ULPs, and arbitrations.
  • Experience providing labor advice and counseling, including experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, judgment, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate autonomously while being a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, rapidly-evolving workplace.
  • Ability to think quickly on your feet and manage complex workloads, multiple client demands, and shifting priorities.
