About the position

The Assistant Wrestling Coach/Possible 2nd Sport-OPEN Teaching Position at Byron P. Steele II High School is a dual role that combines teaching and coaching responsibilities. The primary purpose of this position is to provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The role requires enabling students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. The position is exempt and reports to the Campus Principal, Campus Athletic Coordinator, and Athletic Director.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
  • Assist Head Coach in designing strategy, offense, defense, schemes, and techniques for wrestling.
  • Follow UIL/Other Association rules concerning wrestling.
  • Responsible for Coaches Certification Program Requirements.
  • Assist in assuring eligibility of all participants in wrestling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.
  • ESL certificate preferred or willingness to acquire for Math/Science/Social Studies teaching.
  • ESL certificate required for English Language Arts teaching.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for Special Education assignments.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets District requirements.
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in coaching wrestling or other sports.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Benefits

  • Teacher Pay Schedule plus Athletic Assistant Wrestling Stipend of $5,000.
  • Possible 2nd Sport stipend ranging from $1,700 to $7,500.
