About the position

The Assistant Vice President of Finance at BPL plays a crucial role in steering the financial policy and ensuring compliance within the library system. This leadership position focuses on accounting and financial management, supporting day-to-day operations while collaborating with senior leadership to achieve the library's financial objectives. The AVP will oversee all accounting operations and contribute to modernizing business practices as the library transitions to a new ERP system.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct BPL's financial accounting and reporting functions.
  • Maintain fiscal records and prepare financial reports in accordance with accounting principles and governmental standards.
  • Forecast short and long-range cash requirements and obligations.
  • Act as the primary contact with independent auditors and supervise annual audits.
  • Supervise the Assistant Controller and oversee general accounting and accounts payable functions.
  • Provide leadership and support for Finance department staff in their training and career development.
  • Guide Library managers on best practices in fiscal management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA or advanced degree preferred; CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in financial management, accounting, and reporting for large organizations, preferably not-for-profits with significant public funding.
  • Superior computer and analysis skills with knowledge of ERP systems; experience with Infor Lawson or Workday is a plus.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting standards and government regulations for not-for-profits.
  • Demonstrated communication and organization skills, with a proven track record as a change agent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a leadership role within a public library or similar organization.
  • Familiarity with budgeting processes in large organizations.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $160,000 - $170,000.
