About the position

The Assistant Summer Voyagers Camp Director is responsible for the supervision and safety of children ages 8-13, providing basic instruction, and assisting in the planning and leading of sports and enrichment activities and games. This role includes supervising counselors, assistant counselors, and volunteers, as well as assisting the Camp Director in communication with the Program Coordinator regarding these individuals. The position is seasonal, with camp dates from June 10 to August 9, 2025, and working hours from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Attend mandatory staff training sessions
  • Assist in planning and instructing program activities and games for camp participants relating to camp theme
  • Responsible for the safety of individuals in camp
  • Assist in supervising and leading participants in daily camp activities
  • Assist in the management and evaluation of counselors
  • Assist in the management and evaluation of volunteers
  • Assist in the management and evaluation of assistant counselors
  • Responsible for assisting in effective and appropriate communication to caregivers regarding participant progress and behavior within program setting
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled by Program Coordinator
  • Enforce late pick up policy and ensure all participants are properly dismissed to caregiver
  • Responsible for care and maintenance of camp equipment and storage areas
  • Assist in completing written reports such as accident, incident on a timely basis
  • Responsible for assisting in maintenance of all camp paperwork
  • Communicate to supervisor(s) if there are problems or issues needing special attention
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Program Coordinator & Camp Director

Requirements

  • Experience working with children
  • At least 1 year experience working in a camp setting
  • High school diploma or GED
  • First Aid/CPR certified or able to obtain prior to start date
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
  • Ability to read staff manuals, memos, and attendance sheets
  • Ability to complete attendance sheets, accident reports, incident reports and camper behavior reports using prescribed format
  • Ability to give verbal direction to subordinates, communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, citizens, and the public as well as other employees
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently
