About the position

As an Assistant Store Manager at Family Dollar, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our customers receive exceptional service while assisting the Store Manager in the daily operations of the store. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about retail and customer service, and who are looking to grow their careers in a supportive environment. You will be responsible for maintaining the store's appearance, managing inventories, and completing daily paperwork, all while fostering a positive shopping experience for our customers. Your primary duties will include greeting and assisting customers in a friendly and approachable manner, answering their questions, and resolving any inquiries or concerns they may have. You will maintain a visible presence in the store, ensuring that it is clean, well-stocked, and organized. Under the guidance of the Store Manager, you will supervise, train, and develop Store Associates, ensuring they adhere to Family Dollar's operating practices and procedures. In addition to customer service and team management, you will assist in unloading merchandise from delivery trucks, organizing stock, and transferring items from the stockroom to the sales floor. You will also support the Store Manager in ordering merchandise and maintaining accurate records, including payroll, scheduling, and cash register transactions. Loss prevention will be a key focus, and you will help implement strategies to minimize shrinkage. In the absence of the Store Manager, you will assume certain management responsibilities, ensuring that the store continues to operate smoothly and efficiently. This role requires a commitment to following all company policies and procedures, as well as a dedication to fostering a positive work environment for both customers and associates.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and assists customers in a positive, approachable manner.
  • Answers questions and resolves customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Maintains a presence in the store by providing excellent customer service.
  • Ensures a clean, well-stocked store for customers.
  • Supervises, trains, and develops Store Associates on Family Dollar operating practices and procedures under the direction of the Store Manager.
  • Assists in unloading all merchandise from delivery truck and organizes merchandise.
  • Transfers merchandise from stockroom to store.
  • Assists Store Manager in ordering merchandise and record keeping, including payroll, scheduling, and cash register deposits and receipts.
  • Supports Store Manager in loss prevention efforts.
  • Assumes certain management responsibilities in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Follows all Company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Prefer completion of high school or equivalent education.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives (e.g., merchandise schematics).
  • Prefer store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environments.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 40 lbs. (and occasionally, up to 55 lbs.) from floor level to above shoulder height.
  • Must be able to meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work flexible, full-time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
