About the position

The Assistant Professor position in the Cosmetic Science Program at Spelman College is a tenure-track role aimed at enhancing the academic environment and curriculum related to cosmetic science and chemistry. The successful candidate will contribute to the growth of the program, focusing on the intersection of race and gender in beauty practices, and will be responsible for teaching, research, and mentoring students in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute effectively to curriculum development related to formulation science, claims validation, product development, and other foundational topics related to cosmetic science.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in cosmetic science and in one or more traditional areas of chemistry identified by the ACS: Analytical, Biological, Inorganic, Organic, or Physical Chemistry.
  • Establish a competitive and highly productive undergraduate research program in beauty and personal care.
  • Assist with the development of industry partnerships and lead related efforts, including industry-based directed study appropriate to a liberal arts environment.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Provide service to the department and college.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Cosmetic Science, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Formulation Science, or Material Science with demonstrated research in cosmetics, fragrance, or personal care products.
