About the position

The Department of Food Science at Cornell University is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Synthetic Biology for Sustainable Food Systems. This role focuses on applying synthetic biology to enhance sustainability in food systems, particularly in food waste processing and fermentation processes. The successful candidate will engage in both research and teaching, contributing to the academic community through innovative research and mentorship of students.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead a robust research program in synthetic biology focused on food and food processing waste materials.
• Secure external funding to support research activities.
• Publish high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals.
• Collaborate with faculty within the department and across the university to foster interdisciplinary research initiatives.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in food science and synthetic biology.
• Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students.
• Participate in faculty meetings, select committees, and related service work appropriate to faculty members.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Food Science, Synthetic Biology, or a related field.
• Demonstrated research experience in synthetic biology or a related area.
• Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
• Experience in securing external funding for research activities.
